One assumes that the carob was originally resident on the Arab peninsula. You find this evergreen, extremely heatproof and drying-resistant tree, its fruits among the legumes to be ranked in the entire Mediterranean area and also in California. Isolated it arises also in South America, south Australia and New Zealand. The long-lived tree high up to 18m carries fruits between 80 and 100 years. The first harvest is in its 7th year. The tree lives in symbiosis with bacteria who binds the nitrogen from air. For this reason it does not need an additional fertilizer. MAIN CULTIVATION COUNTRIES |
